i think that everyone deep down inside wants to find that one person that accepts them as they are - for lack of a better phrase - flaws and all. you know, that person that sees more that’s right with you than there is that’s wrong with you.
you can say what you want about self-esteem….that it’s “esteem of yo’ muthaf*cking self ” (© katt williams, 2006) and all that, but in your most intimate and vulnerable relationships you do tend to seek that other person’s approval. and it can be the most heart-breaking thing in the universe to realize that the person whose approval you seek - the one that inspires you to be a better person today that you were yesterday - dislikes everything or the most basic things about you. sometimes, that can be the emotional straw that breaks the camel’s back. it can turn a sensitive and caring person into a person that is numb and unfeeling.
are there really such things as “perfect imperfections” ( © bruthacode - i think, circa 2005-2006) ? sometimes i often wonder what comes first in love… do you accept a person “flaws and all” because you fall in love with them or do you fall in love them because you’ve accepted those flaws? and if sometimes we mistake the warm feeling of love for the warm comfort of approval.
I think we can only know that we truly love someone when we reach that uncomfortable feeling of truly seeing them and then realizing that we love them anyway. Seeing a person “emotionally naked” is far scarier than seeing them physically naked because we can usually close our eyes to the things we aren’t really fond of physically. You can do that to the things about them on the inside

Sometimes you fall because you love the feeling of someone who decides to accept you.
